ROCKERS The Transplants will have families bopping along to their punk/blues tunes in a Lygon Street concert this Sunday afternoon.
The band will perform at a free music and community event at Argyle Square as part of DonateLife Week 2013. The event, which takes place between 11am and 3pm, is part of a national initiative promoting awareness of life-changing organ and tissue donation. The Transplants (pictured above) have a special connection with the event as each band member is a liver recipient.
Transplants singer Jo Fraser (pictured right) said as well as having a laugh with her "maniacally energetic" band mates, the event was a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of organ donation.
"The day's about getting people that say they'll register as donors off their butts to sign up," Fraser said, "and to get people that have signed up to let their loved ones know their wishes."
Fraser, who has battled with an auto-immune disease for about 10 years, has received two liver donations. She needs a third. Last year more than 1000 Australians received transplants.
Rappers Little G and Flybz, as well as African drummers, Bollywood dancers and many more will join The Transplants for the event.
